Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk shows you how to play a magnificent game of chess in this chess video tutorial on the very difficult Rook and Bishop against Rook endgame. See how to use the Philidor's position to win the endgame of chess.

The Philidor position is one of the key positions in which the stronger side wins in Rook and Bishop vs. Rook. It's useful to know about it in case you get that endgame in your tournament practice.

Philidor's position usually refers to an important chess endgame which illustrates a drawing technique when the defender has a king and rook versus a king, rook, and pawn. It is also known as the third rank defense, because of the importance of the rook on the third rank cutting off the opposing king.
